As your community grows, you might need to reorganize some of your forum content differently to make it more accessible to members. For example, you might find that a recurring issue or question appears in your forums but has been answered multiple times and has a verified answer, so you want to give that information a dedicated page in a wiki. The Telligent Community Server capture thread to wiki option lets you do just that from both discussion and Q&A forums.
The capture thread to wiki is an option in the post page Options panel.
How thread capture works
Capture the forum thread
- On the forum Home Page, click the thread you want to capture. The post page appears.
- Click More on the thread page.
- Select Capture to wiki. If more than one wiki is present in the group, a drop-down list of available wikis appears.
- Click the wiki where you want the thread to appear.
- Click Capture. The new wiki page has a pre-populated title field with the original question. The parent field is unfilled, but you can choose that. The wiki page text contains a link back to the forum thread. (The forum thread remains intact in the forum, and links to the wiki page as well.)
Recapture a thread
If a thread is subsequently changed, such as by being re-answered, the wiki page does not show the updated information or any notification of the change. In order to update the wiki page, you can recapture the thread.
- Click the updated thread in the forum thread list. The post page appears.
- Click More.
- Click Recapture. The wiki page is updated with the new information.
Unlink the wiki page and forum thread
As a forum admin, you can remove the link from the forum thread to the wiki page.
- Click the updated thread in the forum thread list. The post page appears.
- Click Remove link to wiki.
- Click OK in the confirmation dialog box. The forum thread no longer displays a link to the wiki page or capture information.
