A URL redirect allows you to send users from source content (such as an out-of-date URL, or a blog post link) to a target link and gather hit statistics for you when they click it. With Telligent Community Server, you can track the number of hits you get by using a redirect.
Create a URL redirect
To create a URL redirect:
-
Navigate to Control Panel > System Administration > Site Administration > Site Content > Manage URL Redirects.
-
Enter the URL data:
- Redirect URL - The target Web page where users will be redirected.
- Description - Description of the redirect URL.
-
Click Create. Community Server automatically assigns an ID to the URL redirect, for example http://9-0-3-40223.com.ootb/r?1.
-
Click View. Community Server displays the URL in a dialog box. Copy the URL in the box and paste it where you want users to click from to view the target page.
Manage a URL redirect
View the number of hits it receives
Once you create a URL redirect, you can track the number of hits the redirect receives.
Navigate to Control Panel > System Administration > Site Administration > Site Content > Manage URL Redirects. The hits column displays how many times the URL redirect link you created and placed on the content (such as in the blog post) has been hit to view the target page.
Edit a redirect
On the Manage URL Redirects page, you can edit the URL target or description (as shown in step 2 above) without affecting the number of hits the redirect has received. However, you cannot change the redirect itself (e.g., http://9-0-3-40223.com.ootb/r?1).
- Navigate to Control Panel > System Administration > Site Administration > Site Content > Manage URL Redirects.
- Beside the redirect you want to change, click Edit.
- Update the redirect URL (target) or description.
- Click Update.
Delete the redirect
When you delete the redirect, your link from the source will remain the same (such as /r?1), but clicking this link will simply land you on the community home page. You can't reuse an old redirect URL that you've deleted; each redirect is a new iteration.
- Navigate to Control Panel > System Administration > Site Administration > Site Content > Manage URL Redirects.
- Beside the redirect you want to delete, click Delete.
- Click OK in the confirmation dialog box.
