Unlike earlier releases, Community 14 is cross-platform, fully containerized, and supports multiple architectures. It has no requirements other than a working container runtime.
Prerequisites
- Basic familiarity with Docker and Docker Compose.
- A local container runtime such as Docker, OrbStack, Colima, or Podman. If not using the Docker runtime, these examples still assume Docker Compose compatible tooling, available for most container runtimes.
- For plugin development, the .NET 10 SDK.
Deployment Shape
The guides below use sample Compose stacks defining the following services:
- Web: Serves Community HTTP traffic
- Job: Runs background tasks
- Search: Solr with Community cores
- Infra: Custom message bus and distributed cache
- Installer: Installation and upgrade helper
Dependency containers from publicly-available images:
database: Microsoft SQL Server- Optional: For ease of installation (especially for local testing and development), the sample stack pulls Microsoft's own SQL Server container. While SQL Server is required in some form, it is not required to use a containerized instance.
telemetry: .NET Aspire dashboard- Optional, but an OpenTelemetry dashboard is recommended.
antivirus: ClamAV for file validation- Optional, but Community 14 has built-in support for ClamAV.
smtp: MailPit for local outbound email testing- Optional, but useful for local testing.
Persistent data is stored for:
- SQL Server data
- Centralized file storage (CFS) containing static assets and uploads
- Solr search index
The installer container initializes a new site and applies upgrades on later runs. The web and job containers should not start serving Community until the installer has completed successfully. The sample compose files ensure this.
