Search issues in 11.x

Seeing the same issue in my environment!

Lucy Rogers is this something that can be added into a queue of improvements?

Tom Paolucci  would it be easy to move this to ideation?

Howdy Lucy Rogers - There isn't a way to move this post, but the ask could certainly be added to Ideas and Improvements. I believe suggestions there get more traction when added by one of our clients, but if it isn't there by the end of the week I'll be sure to add it. I also reached out internally to both Professional Services and Product Development last week to make them aware of this post and the concerns being raised. 

Lucy Rogers Tom Paolucci while i can appreciate your request to move this to Ideas and we can certainly post there, I think this is just a basic expectation that should be fixed. I don't see this as an enhancement. Any user using search, I think, would expect the results to be the same whether or not you hit "enter". The filters should not clear just because you hit enter. You should be able to adjust the filters, yes, but the filters originally selected should not clear. Am I missing something?

Hey rwinkler - sorry for the late response, Lucy is OOTO at the moment. This has been by design for many years, so would not be considered a bug at this time. I know its not the ideal design for many use cases, but was deliberately built this way for a reason back when it was designed (I couldn't tell you what those reasons are, but I'm curious too). That said, I'll talk with Jason Grimstad on this and see if anything can be done between now and a new version where this functionality would change. Thanks!

thx Grant Pankonien I would be interested to know the reasons as I don't believe this is what users expect. The filters shouldn't clear in a search just bc you hit "enter". Most people type the search terms and then hit enter to get the results... We are getting feedback from our users that our filters are not working because of this.

Grant Pankonien any update on this? did you have a chance to speak with Jason Grimstad 

Grant Pankonien  the way Advanced Search works causes issues for our Community users as well.  I'm happy to work with you to document our use case and map out a solution that would meet our needs.

rwinkler kristen.sensabaugh - Jason made a post below that begins to address the topic, we're making changes! As part of this, we'll be carrying over the filters/facets that are set from the drop down on over to advanced search. Jason Grimstad keep me honest here. Hi Grant Pankonien Jason Grimstad  this is good news!  I'm interested in seeing a preview of the update to see if it aligns with what our site users are requesting.
