Auto Add New User to a Role based on Email Domain

This automation will automatically add new users to a role based on their email domain matching a configured value.

Note: This automation works best in conjuction with the site configured with "Email Approval" mode enabled. This will ensure someone isn't put into a role with elevated permissions by accident.

Installation Instructions

  1. To import this automation please follow the documentation listed here: https://community.telligent.com/community/11/w/user-documentation/62977/how-do-i-configure-automations-for-my-community
  2. You will then click on "Automations" above the Automation Studio tab and click "Add"
  3. For the "Type of Automation" drop down, select "Auto add user to role upon registration"
  4. Then define the role parameters (screenshot below), enable it, and click save!

This is a dumb question, but if we are hosted, how do we install things like this? Does the Verint team need to install them for us, and what is the typical charge?

We got this installed, and I have 180 domains to add as automations. I do have them in an Excel list. Is there a way to import a list? 88 of them get 1 specific Role, and 92 of them get another specific Role, so making an importable list would be simple. If there is a way to import a list, what would the format be?

    Keith.

Hi Elijah. Thanks for the response. With our firewall blocks, there is a long number associated with them. Where did you find that? I don't see it in the exception anywhere.

Keith Bergen - Can you confirm it's not the internal firewall rules blocking this?  It's oddly similar to what we saw previously with your install and importing widgets.

Hi Grant. We just went through an upgrade where Verint (Rich Mercer) helped us. We're now on 12.0.4.18802.

Hey there, what specific version is your community running? Can find in the About tab in the Administration section. Thanks!

When I try to import this through the Automation Studio as indicated in the How-To in step 1, I get an exception.
"Could not import automations (An unexpected error prevented your requested action from completing. The error has been logged for the administrator to review."

Any ideas on what is causing this?

    The Inner Stack is:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at Telligent.Evolution.Api.Plugins.Administration.AutomationManagement.AutomationManagementImportService.ImportAutomations(String uploadContextId, String fileName, Nullable`1 targetFactoryDefaultProvider, Boolean publishImmediately, IEnumerable`1 importCommands, ScheduledFileContextTransaction progressContext)

You're wonderful, Grant Pankonien  - after posting this question I actually READ the instructions and realized what to do. We are a B2B community and have a lot of site roles for client organizations, so I can do reporting on their activity to the client-facing teams for each client. I have been manually updating those site roles and this will eliminate that chore. I'm glad I ran into this! So I've installed this and am creating automations for each of those site roles.

Not a dumb question! This one you can actually download yourself (blue button on the left) and import it onto your community. The installation instructions above will guide you as a Community Manager how to do it, but happy to help if needed!

Just for awareness - Process for items you cannot download and need it to be installed is hopefully fairly straightforward - 1) open a support ticket asking for the particular marketplace item be installed on your environment (UAT and/or Prod), can provide a link to it just in case. This is also assuming the item is free, as some on the marketplace are for a charge, but this particular one is free). SaaS will install it on the environment of your choice and let you know when complete. No additional charge for this.
