Admin notification for Video Transcoder

Hi All,

This morning, I was notified by a customer that their video hadn't uploaded. On review, the video transcoding had stopped 2 days ago, with multiple videos not converted.

Once I was aware of the issue, I could get the transcoder to work again. (Cancelled what seems to be the offending file)

Does anyone know or have anything in place, which notifies administrators that the Video transcoder has stopped working? By setting a limit of 5 videos not converted, a notification is sent to an Administrator to review.

This has happened enough to warrant a warning system.

  • Hi

Thanks for bringing this up—it's definitely frustrating when video transcoding issues go unnoticed and impact your members' experience.

To answer your question: Verint does not have a built-in alert system that automatically notifies administrators, when the video transcoder stops or when a certain number of videos fail to convert. This is something that would need to be configured as a custom monitoring solution based on the admin area described below.

However, Verint does list out all failed videos - under penci --> viewers -> video transcoder

    A few options to consider:

    1. Submit a product enhancement request to Verint - Since this has happened multiple times, it's worth asking Verint to add an admin notification feature for transcoding failures or queue backups. This seems like a reasonable feature that would benefit other communities as well.
    2. Set up manual monitoring - In the meantime, you could establish a routine check of the video transcoding queue (daily or a few times per week) to catch issues before they pile up.
    3. Custom monitoring solution - Depending on your technical resources, you might be able to set up an external monitoring script that checks the transcoding queue via API and sends alerts when videos are stuck or the queue exceeds a certain threshold.

I'd also recommend documenting this pattern with Verint support—if there's a specific file type or size that tends to cause the transcoder to hang, they may be able to help identify and prevent the root cause.
