Why Can't I Filter for Groups in the Search Pop-Up?

We're on version 12.1.2.21912

When I try to search for one of our groups, called "Artificial Intelligence" it doesn't immediately appear in the list, and I can't filter by groups:

It's similar here on the Verint community, except in this instance, the group does actually appear at the top of the list even though you can't filter to show groups:

Also appears to be the same that you can't filter for 'applications' either but they may also show up in the list? Doesn't quite make sense.

  • Hi all, got some feedback from our Product mgmt folks. There was a change made in 12.1.2 for how facets works and to include sub-group content in the facets.

    • TE-17433 - Updated site banner and full search to show application facets (in place of content type facets in the site banner) along with ensuring that filtered options in the site banner persist to the full search UI (Widget Updates Required)

The changes to adjust what facets show were intentional with the same existing functionality in the advanced search as needed so you could search groups after going into advanced search. It was an effort to make the UX of searching better with the update to include sub-group searching. That said, we've heard feedback already that the application facets are missed. Bringing them back and keeping the functionality we introduced are in discussions, so stay tuned!

    Thank you!

I was surprised by the recent changes and would like to share my feedback on the impact it had on our experience.

    - That a change which impacts the user's interface and usability in a major feature would be pushed out without it being at least a toggle-able option or ability to be customised, having the ability to have control over the way this presents would be a great transition to this type of functionality where it's not made the default.

    - I was first told that it would need to be a "customisation" (which is presumably a paid service if not in-house to us) to have the change put back to how it was, when it was a change we didn't ask for.

    - That changes to the user interface like this are made without consultation with all users, but ideas raised for changes to the user interface take a very, very long time to be considered for implementing even with expressed interest by multiple customers. I understand that there may be reasons for this decision in particular, but it would be helpful to have more context and information about the changes.

    - Even if this was listed in the 12.1.2 patch/upgrade notes, it would be helpful to have more information about the changes, such as what TE-xxxxx tickets contain and their purpose.

It was an effort to make the UX of searching better with the update to include sub-group searching.

I appreciate and I am thankful of effort being put into this. Search is important and confusing to our members in particular and as I'm more familiar with the Verint platform it's obviously the backbone of a lot of the widgets and functionality, and I suspect what happened here is that it makes sense for how it's presented on Verint's own community platform, because the groups (here) are laid out in such a way that you can see you're searching within 'Verint Community v.11' or 'Verint Community v.12' (and other customers may have a similar sensible layout).

Unfortunately when you're a very large community with many groups, the resulting presentation of this search change, is a truncated view of the groups. The truncated view of the groups on the search results pop-up makes it more difficult to prioritize or utilize the filters effectively. Perhaps there is a way to adjust the algorithm or display to better suit the needs of larger communities with many groups? For us, focusing on the content types made this a better presentation because people would be looking for 'blogs' or 'groups' rather than needing to know which group the content was in as part of the filter.

Bringing them back and keeping the functionality we introduced are in discussions, so stay tuned!

    Great, thank you.
