How do we control who see's the Admin Pencil?
The Admin Pencil will be displayed to anyone with permission to a component accessed via the Administration Panel. This would include members with access to moderation and/or reporting, like Group Owners and Group Managers. Clicking on the Admin Pencil will only display the options each member has permission to use. For example, a Group Manager will have access to moderation and reporting, but only for groups where they are a manager.
I am seeing this for users with online Registered users role:
Stephen Vicino That's exactly what makes us twitchy with the whole admin pencil thing too! As a general user you think you've accessed an area of the site that you're not supposed to!
I would like to see the user accessible features more on the pages themselves rather than behind a small, very often overlooked, pencil icon in the top left corner of the screen. For blog posts for example, you can edit them directly via the edit link on a menu option. It would be great if accessing your drafts was done in the same way rather than going into an admin dashboard area that feels alien to a standard community member.
I agree with that, it looks like as a normal user, you should not see a panel that looks like that.
If you are impersonating a user, you will still see the pencil icon though if you were signed on as the user you would not. This is purely for diagnostic information.

Thank you, I logged in as a normal user and they still see the Site Map however.
Is that a customization?
The plugin is from the marketplace but built by Verint: community.telligent.com/.../community-site-map
It is a customization provided by our Professional Services group. You should verify permissions for your registered users role and if you do not see anything out of the ordinary, you'd need to contact support.
