Permission templates are used to define permissions at the group level when creating new groups or can be used to update existing groups by overwriting existing permissions. Each group type (see What is a group? for more information on group types) can define its own permission template. These permission templates are defined at the site role level.
Navigate to Manage > Administration > Groups > Global Permissions
Choose which group type you would like to view:
By default you are only shown site roles that currently have allowed permissions. You can change this by changing the dropdown value to 'Show all roles'. You can also filter the roles by using the 'Find a role...' search field. Once you have selected the site role you can see the permissions available to modify, or filter by changing the dropdown value or using the 'Find a permission...' search field.
If permissions have been changed to not match what the factory default permission is, you'll see the following:
These changes can be reverted by choosing the 'Revert to factory default' option.
There are two options to saving changes you have made. 'Save' will set the changes as the new default for any newly created groups. Existing groups will not have any changes. 'Save and Overwrite Existing Groups' will set changes as the new default for newly create groups along with overwriting all existing groups that match the changed group type and the site role. The overwrite is not immediate, a background job is scheduled to make the change and it might take some time depending on the number of groups and applications within the community.
