Blog pingbacks in mod queue

I think you can disable then in the blog settings, but it would be good to get some clarification on the reason they appear from the product team 

Disable trackbacks at the blog level with the setting Pencil > Manage Blog > Post Options > Collect trackbacks?  
It only works for posts created after disabling the trackbacks.

Thanks Karl, I am wondering if I even should disable them. Would this discourage activity from people trying to share from their own external blogs? Maybe if the pingbacks are going into moderation then that doesn't matter?

Pingbacks are presented as comments when enabled. They are not displayed in the site by default and there isn't feedback to the related blog. It is safe to disable them if you're not reliant on tracking pingbacks for engagement metrics, for example.

Thanks Ben, I think that is what I need to work, whether we use or could use them for engagement metrics internally. Otherwise we can disable them. Thanks again!

Quick question Ben. In the moderation queue, what happens if you approve it or deny it? Are there any implications of doing either? 

Approval would keep the pingback and it would be available through the public API to be rendered through the UI (thought it isn't included by default). Denying it would delete the pingback--it would not communicate back to the author because Community sees these as being authored anonymously.

Agree with what Ben Tiedt  says above. We have disabled it for a few clients, only because it was alarming at first that it was in the Moderation Queue as "Anonymous" when it was thought that Anonymous users did not have any write- priveleges on the community.

Can you clarify this a little further? If it's approved from the Moderation queue would it show as a reply on the post, or just to blog authors & admins in the Trackbacks menu:

I usually just deny the pingbacks in the moderation queue but based on your comment here, I am wondering if it is better to approve for future metrics. 

This came up as an employee (one of our execs) reached out to me as he was receiving the moderation emails for these and wasn't sure if he should be acting on them. I ended up having him disable his moderation emails in his site settings since he doesn't need to worry about moderating the site.

It would just show in the trackbacks menu. Trackbacks are a typed comment and are not shown in the front UI by default within the comments list.
