Zoom works on images but not gifs

Howdy Alex Nassi - I just saved the same image as a .jpg and .gif and inserted both into a blog post in a private test group on this site. Both are behaving the same when I click on them. I'll give you access to this area to see if you are seeing the same thing in this post:  Test Blog Post  

Thanks for checking that Tom Paolucci . In your test post, the second image is .gif, but there's no movement. It's zooming in though which is the expected behavior. Can you try inserting the gif I included in this post? Are you able to zoom into the image i included above? 

That was it, the animated .gif does not zoom. I needed to define the dimensions for it to be displayed full size. Steven Heffner - Do you know if there would be a way to expand an uploaded animated .gif file? 

You currently cannot resize an animated gifs and this is intended.   Resizing animated gifs is not the same as a static image and resizing them can affect the actual animation

I just realized a reasonable workaround and wanted to share in case anyone else comes across this in the future. To handle this, I uploaded my gif into the Administration > Site > Files repository. Then, I used that URL in place of the (uploaded) image in my blog post, also making the image a clickable link to the same URL and having it open a new tab when clicked.

This is not necessarily a good idea to do depending on your situation as site files are not secured, so any protection you have from the content permissions becomes null and void for the file. 

Good point, I didn't include that caveat as this blog is publicly accessible, so the permissions would allow "Everyone" to view anyway. If this was a blog (or another post) in a non-public group, especially if this gif contained confidential information, this would not be a safe workaround.
