How are views calculated?

View counts are incremented when certain content widgets (like the Forum Thread widget) are loaded. Each load is considered a view, and views are logged per user per content. However, I believe the Viewed Content report aggregates all views, not just unique user views.

Would we have to make sure that those content widgets like the Forum Thread widget are on the page or piece of content where we are tracking views? I am thinking about our blog posts or forum threads that likely do not have that widget loaded on the page.

Those are the widgets used to render content on their respective pages - assuming there have not been major customizations done to page and widget structure. Viewing content on their respective standard pages will increment view counts.
