I have not run into that error before, but have you tried Disapproving the spammers instead of fully deleting? https://community.telligent.com/community/11/w/user-documentation/62959/how-do-i-ban-or-disapprove-a-member That might help (at least temporarily), and you may find having the record of the old accounts can be useful instead of completely wiping away any record of them.

even after disapproving the user, saving, and then getting back into the user to delete and all content created by the user the error appears. and happens not with every user, only certain ones. this is not normal and not a good practice. w wish to maintain the workflow used since we were on version 9x and used for several years. the platform should be able to do it.

Oh, right, I forgot about that part, my apologies. I'm fairly new on this platform and have only been on 11.x. I hope you get some traction on the support ticket or someone else here is able to give more ideas!
