Description
Purpose
Renders navigation links based on groups, custom navigation list, or site banner links.
Limitations
This widget requires search to be installed in order to work. Tabs must be configured (see below) in order to display anything on the navigation bar.
Where it works
This widget can be used on just about any page in the site.
Configuration
Place and configure the widget
- Click Pencil Icon > Manage [Site/Group] Theme > Edit this Page
- Select and place the Navigation widget on the page
- Click on in the widget menu bar. The configuration dialog appears.
- You can change the title of this widget by replacing the text in the Widget Title box.
- Links - Links can be defined by this widget instance or synchronized with custom links configured in the Site Banner. Choices include:
- Custom - You define the navigation items in the Custom Navigation Items field.

- Groups
- Include Sub Groups - Check to include sub groups
- Continue to Step 9
- Synchronized - Links can be defined by this widget instance or synchronized with custom links configured in the Site Banner

- Custom - You define the navigation items in the Custom Navigation Items field.

Add Custom Navigation Items
Allows you to add, edit, delete, or reorder custom navigation items. (Note: you can only add navigation items when Custom is selected for Links in step 1)

- Add - When clicked, an item dialog box appears.
- Type - Select a type of link from the Links drop-down list. (Note that you can nest navigation items to make drop-down lists of links.)
- Content Page
- Page - Enter the page name to select
- Custom URL
- URL - Enter the full URL, including http://
- Open in New Window - When checked, the URL will be opened in a new window/tab when selected.
- Show to Roles - When specified, only members in these roles will be shown this link. If not set, all members will see the link.
- Group Article Collections
- Group - Select the group name, ID, or URL containing the article collection(s) to link to.
- Group Blog(s)
- Group - Select the group name, ID, or URL containing the blog(s) to link to.
- Group Calendar(s)
- Group - Select the group name, ID, or URL containing the calendar(s) to link to.
- Group Forum(s)
- Group - Select the group name, ID, or URL containing the forum(s) to link to.
- Group Ideation
- Group - Select the group name, ID, or URL containing the Ideations to link to.
- Group Leaderboard(s)
- Group - Select the group name, ID, or URL containing the leaderboard(s) to link to.
- Group Media Gallery/Galleries
- Group - Select the group name, ID, or URL containing the media gallery/galleries to link to.
- Group Members

- Content Page
- Label - The label for this item on the menu when rendered.

- Add - When clicked, an item dialog box appears.
- Click Save to exit the Add navigation item dialog.
- If you wish to add more navigation items, add each one individually and save. You can also drag and drop items in the Custom Navigation Items field to make a menu item a sub- or same-level option
- Layout - Choose from the following options:
- Vertical - Displays navigation items in a vertical format.
- Horizontal - Displays navigation items in a horizontal format.
- Display - Choose from the following options:
- Expanded - Displays nested links.
- Collapsed -Links are hidden by default behind an expansion link which displays them.
- Design - Inherit or specify preset or custom colors and gradients
- Inherit from, Group, or Blog Banner
- Color Palette - Select a color palette. These are defined by the theme and can be adjusted.
- Use Color

- Border - Select border option
- No Border
- Top Border
- Bottom Border
- Top and Bottom Border
- Border Color - Define border color
- Inherit from, Group, or Blog Banner
- Click Save to exit the Navigation dialog.
- Click Publish when complete.
Edit a Custom Navigation Item
- Click on in the Navigation widget menu bar. The configuration dialog appears.
- In the Configure Navigation dialog, select the Custom Navigation Item you want to edit.
- Click Edit. The Edit navigation item dialog appears.
- Make any desired changes to this item
- Click Save to exit the Edit navigation item dialog.
- Click Save to exit the Configure Navigation dialog.
- Click Publish when complete.
Delete a Custom Navigation Item
- Click on in the widget menu bar. The configuration dialog appears.
- In the Configure Navigation dialog, select the Custom Navigation Item you want to remove.
- Click Delete.
- Click OK in the confirmation dialog.
- Click Save in the Configure Navigation dialog.
- Click Publish when complete.
