Why can people reply, but not see their reply to a forum post from a moderated person?

We are an open community so allow our IET Members to bypass moderation, but we moderate everyone else. My question here is about the journey for the moderated posts. For example, a non-IET member will create a community account and post to the forum. That post goes to the moderators for review. We approve the post, but we're not convinced the person is genuine so they remain in the moderated state. Their post is visible in the forum and other (un-moderated) community members are able to reply. However, because the OP is in a moderated state, all replies also go into the moderation queue - is that expected behaviour, or have we missed a setting somewhere?

If we don't get to approve the replies quick enough, we've found it confuses the people who have written them and they think something has gone wrong.

Does that make sense? Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes, this is expected behaviour. Because the member is in a moderated state, you flag that nothing they post to the community should be trusted and that everything should be moderated.

It does not work in the way that "if you approve their first reply, every subsequent reply by the moderated user for that thread is permitted".

It is 'all or nothing' whether or not the user is moderated or not moderated. The only exceptions to this are applications where you can moderate posts made to the application regardless of the user's account status, such as blogs.

  • Thanks  I understand what you're saying, but I'd argue that it's not their content that is being moderated. The original post, yes, but the replies by other people are fine (unless they're also in the moderated state of course). Hmm, OK Thinking. Thanks for clarifying Thumbsup

I wouldn't expect unmoderated users to have their replies to a moderated user post go into the moderation queue, it makes sense that they would go somewhere if the Verint system decides that they are not supposed to be visible once the parent comment had been removed. When a comment is deleted, there's an option to delete child comments, but in this scenario, it isn't being deleted, only moderated.

If you're finding that child comments are being moderated when those users are not themselves in a moderated state, that's worth investigating.
