The only supported ways to achieve behavior beyond what is there is to modify the actual carousel widget with potential configuration to pull information already known fromt he featured item(or just add it programmatically), or to create a widget outside of the panel to do the featuring. Adding a field to a panel is not going to help as the field would have nowhere to be stored nor a way to become part of the feature pipeline.
