Email notifications

In one of my community groups, the owner is struggling with email notifications.

Although all our user notifications settings are set to send an email for all notifications (new posts, documents, etc.) we are not getting any emails.  We are getting emails regarding being added to the group, and the daily/monthly digest emails seem to be working, but that is it.

I am getting the notification emails as expected from Calendar posts but not from other pages/tabs (Blog/Announcements, Articles/Resources, etc.)  I do have the email box checked for everything in the Notifications settings so it's odd that Calendar emails are working but others aren't.

While email notification emails are not working when posts/articles are originally posted to the site (arguably the most important notifications,) it seems the notification emails are working if/when post/articles are updated.

  • Many notifications depend on subscriptions. That is, in each application (blog, article collection, etc), the user will need to ensure they are subscribed for all updates. This is exposed slightly different in each application, but this would be the first thing to verify regarding notifications within applications.

  • Hi, piggy backing off of Ben here, but agreed. A user's notifications depend on what they are subscribed to and what they have set for notifications under the user settings. Of course, you can set what types of notifications are available as an administrator within the admin panel under Notifications. But you will want to ensure that users are:

    1. Subscribed to specific applications (this is done on a per-application basis). AND/OR a user can opt in to receive email digests for the group but that is your summary for the whole day.

        - Something to note about this, for forum applications you can set up an auto subscribe for your users (for any new forums that are created - any users that have permissions to access it will automatically be subscribed).

    2. After users are subscribed to content - if they click on their avatar and then click settings if they navigate to the notifications tab  - they can enable all notifications around their subscriptions there.

We also have worked with other clients to help set up auto subscriptions and notifications for users in your community. This can be dependent on role - so you can specific certain default subscriptions and notifications for users based on roles.
