Is there a setting/permission for the default moderator role to allow direct messaging to a user in the moderation queue?

Users in the default Moderators role cannot direct message users whose content is in the moderation queue.  Is there a setting that will allow the role to direct message those users in this case as the moderator may need to let them know why their content was flagged and the only way they can do that now is by 'friending' them.

  • I believe this feature is in V12.1 Slight smile

  • Thanks   I do not see that in our v11 and after giving an account the default moderator role and granting the manage membership permission I do not see the option to content/message a user from the moderation queue but hopefully it will be in v12.

  • Hi  it's in V12.1 not V12. We're about to upgrade to 12.1 and are really looking forward to this feature. It's just a shame that our users are not yet able to include a message when they're reporting content to us to let us know why but that suggestion is in the ideas area and hopefully will be taken forward for the next major update. • Thanks Lisa.  I should have been more specific on the version, it is 12.1.2.21912 that we are moving to and it does have a respond to author feature in the moderation queue for each item in the queue.

  •   have you been able to get this to work?  We also have the 'Respond to Author' option but I do not see where this message is being passed to users. I've tried a few different tokens in the "Abusive Author Content" template but none seem to include the Moderator's Response. Thanks!

  • I believe the token you are looking for is 'Abuse Appeal: Board Response' which is available in both 'Moderator Content Rejected' and 'Moderator Content Accepted'.

  •

It is possible for moderators to direct message an author from the moderation queue in v12.1.2.21912 as long as that user has allowed anyone to message them.  We decided not give moderators to permission to manage membership.

Tom has answered your question though we did not modify the message, or I should say I just modified it to say we reviewed the content and not reviewed the user account which is more in line with what is actually being done by a moderator.

  • We were able to resolve this after dissecting the notification template logic a bit.

We don't moderate user accounts except in extreme cases, but all content is moderated and reviewed before posting, so moderators are routinely rejecting content.  Often these are minor issues that are easily resolved (redacting PII, etc.). The 'Respond to Author' feature is extremely valuable in this context so we can provide guidance to the user as to how they might resubmit their post.
