Articles - Links widget

We're experimenting with articles in a sandbox group, and the Articles - Links widget looks very strange with a "not" symbol by it.

Is there some configuration required that we haven't yet done for this widget? We're trying to decide between using a blog, using articles, or using a wiki for a particular purpose. I was hoping to move forward with articles for this, but based on a number of oddities, I'm wondering whether to use a blog (based on the easy ability to subscribe) or a wiki (based on the cleanness of the tree structure along the left). If I can understand why this widget is rendering like this, it would solve one barrier for using the articles application.

The Not symbol indicates that you have notifications disabled for that article collection.  If you click Manage Notifications, you will presented with the notification options that are available.  If any are selected, the symbol will change once saved.  The intent of presenting it this way was to make it clearer what exactly you are subscribing too and what notifications you should expect to receive.  Other applications have a simpler on/off toggle, but don't provide any indication of what that means.

  • Thank you! That's interesting. To me, seeing a "no" symbol by something might mean it's something I shouldn't click on, or it's disabled; we often use this image various settings to indicate (no, don't do this). Also, it looks like a simple text link rather than a blue button (as the format used in the other apps on Verint Community). So the average user might 1) not recognize what this is, because it looks different from buttons for similar functions in other areas of the community, and 2) might think it's something they shouldn't click on.

Just one person's perspective of course. But this makes me less likely to use the articles app, along with a few other design features that (to be honest) seem a little clunky. (Please forgive me, my intent is not to offend although I know that sounds a little harsh.)

Again, thanks for the information and I appreciate the quick answer!
