Updating thread author in ForumThread.BeforeCreate with automation not working

Looking at the code, I don't believe changing the Author in the BeforeCreate event will work.  The author appears to be passed separately from the thread before the before create event is run, so the change would not be picked up.

Thanks for confirming.  Is there any other way you can advise to update the author?

One option may be to customise the widget and rather than using the current call to create in save.vm

You could add a new saveas.vm to the widget containing the line above and call that using the execute as method passing in your shadow author value

Hi Mathew D'Amico (mdamico) in relation to this it seems that if you do a similar thing with forum replies where the author can be changed and take effect in the before create event, if the new author is moderated the reply doesn't seem to be moderated

Moderation checks should be in the AfterCreate events, so it should still work the same if the author is being updated in the BeforeCreate event.  

This doesn't seem to be happening for me in this case, the replies are created without moderaton

In the before create we change the author and the post is created, I know moderation is working for the user in question as when I create a new post with the author (who is flagged as moderated) it goes into moderation as expected
