Is there a way to explain why a user is deemed to be a moderator ?

We have a new site and the client has reported some migrated users are able to see the admin pin and moderation options even though they are not added to any roles which appear to grant this privilege?

Is there a way to check/confirm this on a user basis?

The best way I know of is to first check the user profile for roles assigned to them and then check the group/application where they are seeing the moderation options to see if any of the roles or membership types were granted Moderate and Review Abuse. If they are seeing it everywhere on site, I'd look at the permissions in the site role.
