Cookie authentication has stopped working

Question

We use cookie integration from a website to our Verint community. This has been working fine for the last few months but has suddenly stopped working. An AuthenticatedUser cookie is being written by the website, but Verint is not logging the user in. 
 
 I thought I'd turn off cookie integration to try and investigate, but when I try to login via ~/controlpanel/localaccess.aspx on the web server I get a message saying "You do not have permission to view this directory or page." 
 
 Is there any other way I can turn off cookie integration, e.g. via the website, or does anyone know the reason for the permission error on localaccess.aspx

Also note there could be the scenario that depending on how the network is setup, even on the machine using the FQDN could result in the request not being local(e.g., it goes out and through a load balancer/proxy before serving the request. If this is the case for you you may need to add an entry in the hosts file of the server for the domain to force a local request.
