Article Featured Content Carousel : Configuration

Description

Purpose

Displays a carousel of featured content or custom widget-defined items for the current group and child groups.

Limitation

You need to define a tab for featured content or have content marked as featured in order for it to appear on the widget.

Where it works

This widget works on site home pages, group home pages, application pages, and post pages.

Configuration

Place and configure the widget

  1. Click Pencil Icon >  Manage [Site/Group] Theme > Edit this Page
  2. Select and place the Featured Content Carousel widget on the page
  3. Click on   in the widget menu bar. The configuration dialog appears.
  4. Options tab
    • You can change the title of this widget by replacing the text in the Widget Title box.
    • Custom FeaturesCustom features are defined by this widget instance and are separate from site content marked to be featured. Select on of the following options:
      • Exclude custom features
      • Only show custom features
      • Include custom features before featured content
      • Include custom features after featured content
      • Include custom features only if there is no featured content
    • Featured Content Items to Display - The number of featured items that will be displayed in the carousel. This value defaults to 5.
    • Transition slides - Select from the following options:
      • Automatically and manually- The carousel will transition slides for the set period of time, or can be transitioned manually.
      • Manually - The carousel slide transition can only be done manually.
    • Slide duration - Length (in milliseconds) to display each slide when automatically transitioning. This value defaults to 5000.
    • Truncation Length - Maximum number of text characters to appear on a featured content slide 
  5. Click Save
  6. Reopen to select another tab or move to Step 16.
  7. Layout tab
    •  Width - Select the display width of the carousel:
      • Window
      • Page or Region
    • Height - Define the height of the carousel in pixels
    • Responsive Mode - When the widget is resized for smaller screens, should it retain the full original widget's aspect ratio, or be cropped horizontally?
      • Crop
      • Scale
    • Background Alignment - Define the alignment when photos exceed the carousel's boundaries:
      • Top Left
      • Top Center
      • Top Right
      • Center Left
      • Center Center
      • Center Right
      • Bottom Left
      • Bottom Center
      • Bottom Right
    • Foreground Alignment - Define the alignment of foreground content:
      • Top Left
      • Top Center
      • Top Right
      • Center Left
      • Center Center
      • Center Right
      • Bottom Left
      • Bottom Center
      • Bottom Right
  8. Click Save
  9. Reopen to select another tab or move to Step 16.
  10. Design tab
    • Blur Photo - Click checkbox to blur background photos to improve foreground legibility
    • Shadow Photos - Click checkbox to darken the background photo corresponding to the foreground content.
    • Design Mode - Use either color or a photo as the default feature background.
      • Use Color
      • Picture
    • Default Color Palette - Choose a color palette or create a custom one.
  11. Click Save
  12. Reopen to select another tab or move to Step 16.
  13. Custom Feature tabs 1 to 5 - Custom Features are defined by this widget instance and are separate from site content marked to be featured.
    • Title - Enter the title you want to assign to this custom feature.
    • Description - Enter a description to appear with this custom feature.
    • URL - If desired, enter a URL for this custom feature to link to
    • Design Mode - Use either color or a photo as the default feature background.
      • Use Color
      • Picture
    • For the Add a shadow to overlaid text check box, select this box if you want to add a shadow to the text.
  14. Click Save
  15. Reopen to select another tab or move to Step 16.
  16. Click Publish when complete.
