Auto-Locking Threads: What thresholds do folks use/does this work retroactively?

We are looking at turning on the auto-lock feature in our community as we sometimes run into several-year-old conversations getting brought back up, which can make a negative discussion look artificially worse than it is.

I was curious what number of days some other communities are using just to get an idea of what is common. We are in the early stages of looking into this so we are still discussing what makes the most sense for us.

Also, I wasn't sure if this would automatically look at all existing threads that are beyond that threshold and lock them. If not, is there a way to make this happen?
