How do I turn off notifications (for replies) on a forum for all users (but still let them be a member)?

So there is a setting on our community that makes every registered member, also a member to a specific subgroup (with a forum that they automatically receive notifications from).

I still want everyone to be a member of this subgroup (so they should still be able to see the content), but I do not want everyone to receive notifications for that forum (or at least, not from a reply from that forum).

How do I do that? Turning notifications for forum off in general is not the solution, since some members want to opt in voluntarily.

Thank you in advance!

    Hi Irene,

The subscriptions are added by the Forum Auto Subscriber plugin. This plugin handles not only subscribing users to forums in new groups they join, but also subscribing members to new forums that are created in their groups. This is site-wide, so turning it off may not be desired, but it is an option.

What method are you using to subscribe new members to the group? If, for example, you're using an automation, you could modify it to remove the subscription after adding the user to the group.

  • Hi  , thank you. I have not find a solution yet...

We have the root community and then several private listed groups (Lobby and Alerts). All 'registered users' and 'Everyone' is automatically a member of that group, after the member is added to the community.

In addition, we have the extension 'Forum Auto Subscribed' enabled, which ensures that new group members are subscribed to all forums in group and all group members are subscribed to a new forum when it is created. We are currently not using the automation 'Auto subscribe user to a group application'.

However. For those 2 private listed groups I

    - do want every member of the community to be a member of the group (therefore, it is private listed)

    - do want every member to receive email notifications of the initial forum threads and blog posts (unless they opt out)

    - do not want every member to receive email notifications of replies of those forum threads and blog post threads. I know I can disable the notifications 'blog post comment' (already did) and 'Forum reply', but I do want users to be able to receive replies when they give an opt-in. Therefore, I do not want to disable the entire notifications part for replies or comments.

Is there a way for me to set it up as described above?

    Thank you so much!

  • Hi  is it possible to help me further on the issue described below? I have not been able to find the solution yet. Thank you!

  • Hello  - Apologies for the delay, Steven has unfortunately left Verint. Are you asking that the notification behavior be different for these 2 private listed groups, or would the notification settings be the same across all groups within the community? I don't know of a way to to have unique notification settings for different groups, but if the settings are community wide, you would be able to use an Automation  to modify member's notification settings.

  • Hi Tom, the notifications settings can be the same across all groups, if that is the only possibility.

    Current situation

    - User is automatically a member of the group(s) because the role 'registered users' is a member of the private listed group
    - Forum auto subscriber extension is 'on' so group members are subscribed to all forums in group
    - Email notifications for forum thread and forum reply are on

--> Outcome: every registered (new and existing) user is receiving an email for a new forum post and a new forum reply.
--> Users receive too many emails, specifically for the forum replies. Unsubscribing is manual on the forum itself.

    Desired situation

    - User is automatically a member of the group(s) because the role 'registered users' is a member of the private listed group
    - Forum auto subscriber extension is 'on' so group members are subscribed to all forums in group
    - Email notifications for forum thread and forum reply are on

--> Outcome: every registered (new and existing) user is receiving an email for a new forum post (unless they opt-out) and for a new forum reply (if they opt-in).

    Question

Is there a possibility to make an automation that mutes the replies / notifications for replies for subscribed users, unless the user 'unmutes' the notification? Or would it be best to work with daily and weekly digest and make sure no one is subscribed to the forum/blog in the first place (but still a member of the group)?

    Thank you!

  • Hello  - It would be possible to make an automation that could set a new member's notification settings so that forum replies do not generate a notification. The member would then have the ability to to switch their settings to get these emails. One of our development partners has a listing in our Marketplace that offers this functionality and more - Subscription Management Bundle.
