New Content Indicator

Are your group owners subscribed to the applications they are interested in? That would be the first way I see most being notified of a new piece of content proactively. Another way could be you put widgets for each application and display latest content there. You would be looking for widgets like Forum thread list, blog post list, etc.

I think they are looking for something other than these options, more of a visual indicator. I'll let them know that the options available you listed are the best way to see this information.

I think an asterisk or star, or something next to the ? or chat bubbles in the Forum widget was what they were thinking. I'll go back to them for more details, but this was how I interpreted our conversation.

Thanks for checking with them! On the forum thread list widget we do have the unread threads as bold. There is also a filter for unread threads:

We also had this requirement as the bolding wasn't enough of a visual difference due to different screen resolutions and OS interpretations so we added a CSS override in the site theme to add a color on a.unread elements to make them stand out more.

We don't use wikis on our site so I'm not sure if it would help you there, but anywhere else the system already flags something as unread for the contextual user, it should help.
