Can column sizes be personalized in an individual group?

Is it possible to change the column sizes of the layouts by individual group/ page? It seems like it could be changed from the top level, but what about at the individual level?

This can be done with customization. The simplest, but hacky way to do this would be to drop a widget on the page with some custom CSS. The better solution would be to slightly customize the group theme to expose the widths as theme-defines config options.

I'm not overly savvy with CSS and am still trying to get familiar with the innerworkings of the Administrative side of the community. Do you know of any links/discussions/ how tos that can provide me with a little more detail on how to customize the group theme to expose the widths?
