Merging Ideas

Question

Since the idea Subject doesn't automatically search existing ideas (like what is available for forum posts), I see the same idea submitted multiple times. Can ideas (and unique user votes) be merged like forum posts?

Out of the box, neither of these are configurable. However, both can be done through customization of the widget (for searching existing ideas when creating a new one) or potentially a plugin to support merging and converting. I'd recommend adding the Idea search, in particular, to Ideas and Improvements .
