Configuring forum notifications at forum and thread level

Hi everyone,

Looking for input on the topic of forum notifications. We are setting up a general discussion area for our members with multiple forums on various topics, and want users to be able to turn on notifications at the forum level where they would be notified of net new threads, and responses ONLY to threads they have been active on or have subscribed to.

In some cases, we have seen users getting notifications for replies to threads they have NOT been active on. This is undesirable as it ends up bombarding users with way too many notifications.

Is there a way to distinguish between subscription at the forum level (new threads only), versus the individual thread level? Input from anyone who has successfully set this up would be appreciated!

Thank you,
Ainsleigh

  • I hope it works out! I'm also weighing the benefits in certain situations of multiple forums in a group or breaking into more groups.

Somewhat off-topic, but I noticed something with having multiple forums in one group that you may run into: If you customize the theme at all to the forum, it affects all the pages within the group. For example, we customized the "Create/Edit Forum Thread/Reply" page with some HTML widgets titling it "Forum XYZ", but the other forum in the group ("Forum ABC") also showed the same widget for XYZ. So, be sure any theming updates you do are GROUP specific, not FORUM specific Slight smile
