Moving content between applications via REST, Widget, or In-Process API?

Take a look at the content conversion APIs, it handles both moving and converting.  It is available through REST, Widget and In-Process API.  As long as their is a mover enabled for that type you will be able to move the content between applications.  OOTB, most content types should have a mover available.

I did some digging and wanted to share additional info for anyone that finds this...

AFAIK Movers and Converters implement the ContentConversionService.Converter interface, and it appears that you can install more of these as a plugin.

In the UI the currently installed movers/converters are in the Admin Panel under Applications > Movers and Converters.
