Using the platform for digital display

I'll chime in with some options I can think of.

I would use a content page for this to start. Pencil > Manage Site theme > Manage Pages. You may be doing this, but just calling out for any future folks coming across this via search.

The 'use widgets' workaround is to add the Site - Iframe embedding widget, as that widget has configuration options to hide the header and footer. Does a great job of it, but does also hide the admin pencil so if you run the page as an admin, you won't have that in your way. You just go to a different page on the site to get back to the Manage Pages section of the pencil and click on the content page and edit layout.

The other way I'm thinking is through an Unfiltered HTML widget with CSS in it to comment out the header/footer. I've had this done for me in the past and it got the job done. This does keep the pencil so you can edit it from the page itself, so if running the page as Admin, you will see it. If just running the page as a regular user, then no pencil.

Agreed. The simplest approach of just hiding the header and footer with CSS may be the best if you don't want to affect your banner's inheritance.

Thanks. Can you show an example of the CSS I'd need to comment out the header widgets. I have two in the header, the Site - Banner widget and a custom navigation bar widget.  

This should do it. It hides the entire header and footer regions, regardless of the widgets contained.

Great. That took care of the header. One more item I think. We have the site set to maximum width 1230px

Can I change that within this page to go to 100% width?

If you're using 11.2 or later (with Theme Studio) and have either a default theme or theme derived the default, then an option for max width is exposed in theme options. Home Page > Pencil Icon > Manage Site Theme > Theme Options > Layout. 

Otherwise, that variable can be edited directly in the theme itself if it's an older theme that isn't exposing that variable to configuration via theme studio.

Thanks. That's good to know for the full site, but I want to use the full screen for the digital display subsite only. I tried to use the Layout theme option for the subsite but it didn't do anything. Is there a CSS I can use instead? I've tried several guesses for the CSS but haven't found one that works.
