REST API for messages

Question

Is there a REST API call to message users? I'm trying to write a script to batch 100+ messages to different users. 
 I'm struggling with the difference between Conversation Message REST Endpoints and Conversation REST Endpoints, in addition to figuring out if either will do what I'm attempting.

Conversation Message REST Endpoints : This will create a new message for the existing conversation . You can find Id is a required field which can be found on the url when you click on you conversation 
 
 Conversation REST Endpoints : This will start a new conversation . You can find Usernames is a required parameter .
