ISearchProvider security?

If I wanted to use a different search engine for Community and created a plugin ISearchProvider... how does that work with the handling of security and only showing users what they have permissions to view like Solr does now?

Technically this is possible, however, the search provider must implement the same syntax support as Solr as we depend on that syntax for site functionality. For the security, we store role associations with each document and pass the users roles when searching.
