Does the Permissions REST API support setting perms for Group Roles?

Question

I took a look at the new Permissions REST API and see that it takes a Role ID as an input, but I am curious if it can be used for Group Roles (Owners, Managers, Members)? If yes, where do I get the IDs for the Group Roles? Are the same IDs used for Group Roles across all Groups, or does each Group have their own IDs for those Roles?

The roles for a specific group can be retrieved from the list roles endpoint with the application name "groups" and the ID of the group, for example, 
 /api.ashx/v2/groups/ID_OF_GROUP/roles.json 
 Note that site and group roles are returned. The group roles have a GroupId specified on the returned role. 
 Group roles do not have the same IDs across groups.
