This procedure is designed to upgrade existing Telligent Community, Telligent Enterprise, or Zimbra Community sites to Zimbra Social 8.5.
Zimbra has created a webinar about the release's new features as well as upgrade topics, which you can view here.
You can upgrade directly from Telligent 6.x/3, Telligent 7.x/4.x, or Zimbra Community 8.0 to Zimbra Social 8.5.
Zimbra Social doesn't require separate upgrade procedures from Telligent Community or Telligent Enterprise. Thus, we are publishing only one upgrade guide from previous versions of Telligent products. This upgrade guide also applies to applying periodic maintenance releases.
This upgrade procedure does not cover adding extension modules on your upgraded site. For such add-ons, please see the appropriate documentation. Please note that we recommend stabilizing your upgraded 8.5 site before adding extensions.
Please note also that it's highly recommended to perform the upgrade in a test environment first before upgrading a live site.
You should follow the same steps outlined in the upgrade procedures in this document to apply periodic maintenance releases. If there is a step needed or not needed for a maintenance release, it will be mentioned specifically.
NOTE: If you are applying a periodic maintenance release that does not specifically require a search update, this section is not necessary.
Zimbra Social 8.5 requires solr 4.5.1. If you have a previous version installed, you need to create a new folder and follow this procedure for the new installation.
Release 8.5 does not use the Mail Gateway add-on; it has the job service and jobs built in as plugins. For instructions to remove a previous Mail Gateway instance, please see Remove the Mail Gateway service.
Please follow the steps below to ensure there is no disruption in the collection of web traffic data:
The theme is now reverted. All new features and functionality should now be exposed.
This option allows a site to keep its unique customizations while incorporating changes from the latest platform updates to widgets. This option is more developer-oriented and is most likely applicable to sites that have already had heavily developer-assistance to implement significant customizations.
Alternatively, the developer can manually implement new functionality as mentioned in the What's new with Zimbra Social 8.5 article and explored in depth in the Zimbra Community 8.5 Developer Documentation.
