When a tour tip is displayed, there are two options
What's probably happening here is your members are clicking on 'later', and suppressing the tourtips, rather than actually acknowledging them. (I know, from personal experience doing this plenty of times myself). I've had the following thoughts for improving the dismissal scenario - any comments?
I also think we're perhaps a bit OTT in the number of tour tips we show - If you take a deep link inside of the community, you can have as many as 9 tourtips on the same page to click through, a number of which I think could be consolidated into one (e.g. the four tour tips showing the notification, conversations, bookmark & profile links could probably be combined into one). As another example, I'm not sure we really need a tour tip on the search button - I think people are pretty used to search buttons now, and the tour tip contents IMO doesn't give enough to bother intruding on the user.
(I sent this previously via email, but it did not appear to go through, so if a dupe appears, my apologies...)
Thanks for the additional information, Alex… that is insightful. The “Later” item, although the intent is obvious, is not really consistent with other ways that this sort of interface item is often implemented. After thinking about this some:
