When editing the configuration options for an individual widget, you can change the title on nearly all widgets, such as from "Featured Content" to "Our new content." However, this is a static configuration - so if you copy it elsewhere, you'll see the same name. If you'd like to go a step further and personalize a widget with its group name, application, or the user's name, you can do this with tokens. The tokens are contextual - meaning they reflect the information based on where they're located or who's accessing them. You can also use a resource in the title field.
Available tokens
- ${group_name}- Will display the name of the group where located.
- ${application_name}- Will display the application where located.
- ${user_name}(Note: This token will use the contextual user's name, not the accessing user's name - and should only be used on a user page (for example, user profile, user files). For example, if admin adds this token to the activity list on UserA's profile, the user would see "UserA's Activity List."
- ${resource:RESOURCE_NAME}- The standard syntax for most widget titles, such as ${resource:CF_Core_QuickPost_QuickPost}.
- ${resource:RESOURCE_NAME:RESOURCE_FILE}- Points to another resource within a particular resource file.
Example: Add the group name to the Activity Story Stream widget in a group
In this example, the administrator wants to customize the Activity Story Stream widget title with the name of the group where it's located:
- Click Edit Page on an out-of-the-box, that is, uncustomized, group home page.
- Click the pencil icon (edit) on the Activity Story Stream widget.
- In Widget Title, enter ${group_name} Activity
- Click Save to close the dialog window. You will see the update to the Activity Story Stream widget.
- Click Save Page in the gray bar at the top of the page to save your changes.
- If you want this new token title to apply to all groups that have not yet been customized, click Save as Default.
- Click Save. After the page reloads, you'll see the current group's name in the widget title.
