When you change a user's account status from approved to banned or disapproved, you not only prevent the user from accessing your site, but you also ensure that as long as he/she uses the same email address, he/she will be unable to create a new account. If the banned or disapproved user attempts to create a new account, Telligent Community Server recognizes the existing email address and prevents the new account from being created.
Ban or disapprove user accounts
- Navigate to Control Panel Dashboard > Membership Administration > Members and Roles > Manage Users.
- Search for the user.
- Click the Edit button next to the user account you want to change.
- On the Admin tab, select Disapproved or Banned from the Account Status drop-down list. In either case, the banned or disapproved user's content will appear in search results except in one case, and the user can be messaged. To remove the user from search or disable him/her from being messaged, you must delete the user.
- Select the time interval for the ban from the Ban period drop-down list.
- Select the ban reason:
- Profanity - The user has used profane language. The message(s) might not still be visible if caught in the spam filter.
- Advertisement - The user has posted information which advertises non-sanctioned material or a non-sanctioned vendor.
- Spam - The user has posted spam. The message(s) might not still be visible if caught in the spam filter.
- Attacking other members - The user has publicly or privately attacked another community member.
- Inappropriate username - The user has created a username which uses disallowed language or meaning.
- Inappropriate links or signature - The user posted inappropriate link(s) or has created a signature using language or meaning.
- Ban dodging - The user has created more than one username in an attempt to post content before the ID can get banned.
- Other - Any reason not otherwise covered.
- Click Save changes.The next time the disapproved or banned user attempts to log into the site, he/she will see the appropriate message.
