Create ads

To create ads and load them onto your webpage, the display ads setting must be enabled, which is set in the Control Panel. If you do not have access to the Control Panel, contact your administrator to find out if your website has ads enabled. Additionally, by default members have the Site - Hide Advertisements permission enabled, so in order to see an advertisement widget, this permission must be made unavailable to the role(s).

The Advertisement and Advertisement (Regional) widgets control the ad content. Ad enablement is also covered in this procedure.

Placement

The Advertisement widget is designed to  display an ad on a single page rather than on multiple pages. You load the widget into the area where you want to display the ad, then configure it with a headline in the Widget Title field and HTML for the body text. You can use the Advertisement widget on any site or group page, but each one will be an independent instance (as opposed to the Advertisement - Regional widget, below). The placement and content can vary.

Your advertisement might look like this:

advertisement widget

The Advertisement (Regional) widget's name refers to the fact that it's committed to one region of the page. This widget is designed to assume the same placement and display the same ad content wherever it's docked - sitewide or group home page (it doesn't work on Application home pages). For example if you want to use the ad on a group home page and repeat it on the site home page, you can select the widget and specify the same placement - like Top (Sidebar), and you'll get the same widget content and placement.

You can create custom text for each placement assignment with this widget - for example, Top (content) could contain an ad for dogs, while Middle (content) could contain an ad for cats. Each time you repeat one of these widgets on another page, the same content for that orientation is displayed.

To add and configure one of the advertisement widgets:

  1. Launch the Edit Page mode.
  2. Drag the desired advertisement widget onto the page layout.
  3. Configure the Advertisement widget  by:
    1. Entering the ad header in the Widget Title field.
    2. Entering the ad text, including headline, in the text area.
  4. Configure the Advertisement (Regional) widget by:
    1. Entering the ad header in Widget Title.
    2. Selecting a widget location from the drop-down list. You can create text or modify the existing text, or simply accept the existing content.
    3. Entering the ad text, including headline, in the text area.

  5. Click Save in the widget configuration dialog box.
  6. Click Save in the Edit Page panel.
  7. Click Page.Your advertisement appears on the page.
  8. Click the appropriate Save option (such as "Save as the default for every user").
