With the exception of the administration area, you can translate your community into different languages to make the content more applicable to a global audience. Telligent offers several languages you can install into your community as well as the capability to provide your own translation. When you install a language, that language becomes an option for the user to choose in their profile. Once selected, the non-user contributed content will appear in the user's language of choice. User contributed content such as forum threads, blog posts and comments however are not affected by this language choice as this content is usually written in the author's language directly.
Try to picture software code consisting of two blocks:
- The first block is a programmed internal code the computer uses to run;
- The second block is made up of dialog boxes, names of things, and generally the language that the computer uses to interact with people. This second block is known collectively as the resource files, or simply "resources." Resources include (but aren't limited to) error messages, captions on dialog boxes prompting action, type displayed in the Management panels (but not the Administration panels), and options present when the user interacts with the software - all of which start out in English but can be translated through the use of language packs - so that the computer can interact comfortable in your own language.
How to get a translation
The default language of Tellligent Community is English. A translation comes from a package of code called a language pack, This package of code has components that make changing the language used by Telligent Community possible. You can get a language pack by contacting Services to see whether Telligent already has the language translation you're interested in.
