If you set Receive emails to No for a user in the Administration Panel > Membership > Members > Email and Contact Info]] tab, the user will receive a notification box stating that emails (or notifications) are not enabled if he/she attempts to subscribe to a blog, blog post, forum, forum thread, media gallery, or wiki page.
The email and contact settings that the user can access with their Settings are available to you as an administrator in the Administration Panel, and thus you can override their settings. However, any changes made as an administrator can be changed afterward by the user.
Change basic email settings
- Mouse over Management.
- Click Administration.
- Navigate to Membership > Members. The user search window appears.
- Search for the user whose email or notification settings you want to change.
- Click Edit.
- Click the Email and Contact Info tab.
- Change or verify the following settings:
- Private email - Specify or change the user's private email address used for all email communication from your community. This email address is not publicly visible to any community members except the user.
- Receive emails - The default is yes, enabling the user to receive emails. To disable this, set Receive emails to no. If set to No, the user will not receive any emails except password reset notifications.
- Receive HTML emails - If you want the user's emails to be sent in plain text format instead of HTML (which is the default), set Receive HTML emails to no.
- Allow conversations from - Specifies which users can initiate conversations with the user (none, friends only, all users).
- Public contact information - Publicly visible MSN, AOL, Yahoo, and ICQ instant message contact information.
- Click Save to apply the settings.
Change conversation and contact information settings
- Under Conversations configuration, decide whether to allow conversations for this user from all users (All users), friends (Friends only), or no one (None).
- Under Public contact information, set IDs that will be available to all community members, including:
- MSN IM name
- AOL IM name
- Yahoo IM name
- ICQ chat handle
