This procedure enables you to use your Google credentials to sign into your site.
Google authentication requires having a Google account. Obtaining one is outside of the scope of this article.
Although this client works on non-secure (that is, non-SSL) communities, it is highly recommended that you use SSL (HTTPS) in a production environment. Non-secure connections should only be used for testing purposes.
Register a new application on Google
- Log into Google.
- Navigate to https://code.google.com/apis/console/ to set up a new Google application.
- Click Create Project.
- Click Permissions.
- Select the check box for your account name.
- Click APIs & auth.
- Click APIs.
- Click Google+ API (under Social APIs).
- Click Enable API.
- Click Credentials.
- Under OAuth, click Create new client ID.
The Create Client ID dialog box appears. - Click Web application.
- Click Configure consent screen.
- In the Consent Screen, enter your email address in the Email address field and a product name in the Product Name field.
- Click Save.
- In the Create Client ID screen, select Web application.
- Enter your domain in the Authorized JavaScript origins field.
- Click Create Client ID. The Client ID for web application screen appears, displaying the client ID, email address, client secret, redirect URI, and JavaScript Origins. Keep this screen open for the next step.
Add a secure port in IIS
- Open IIS.
- Click Bindings (Sites > [site name] > Actions pane > Edit Site pane > Bindings). The Site bindings window appears.
- Click Add. The Add site binding window appears.
- Select https from the Type drop-down.
- If you are using the IP address where IIS is located, you can leave the IP address field blank; it will default to the current address. If you need to specify a different IP, type that into the IP address field.
- Specify 443 in the Port field.
- Click OK.
Configure the Google OAuth plugin
- In Telligent Community Server, mouse over Management.
- Click Administration.
- Navigate to Authentication > External Authentication.
- Click Google OAuth client.
- Click the Enabled check box.
- Copy your client ID from the Google application page into the Client ID field.
- Copy your client secret from the Google application page into the Client Secret field.
- Click Save in the configuration panel. When you log out and click the option to log in, you will see the screen shown in the following section (or a similar one) displaying the Google sign-in option for Community Server.
Use Google sign-in
- Navigate to your Telligent site.
- On the Sign-in screen, click Google.
- Click Connect with Google.
- Furnish your Google credentials.
