Description
Purpose
This widget displays information about all kinds of posts, comments, and activity in the site, groups, applications, and for users. It displays a stream of activity stories from the site with previews. This widget is also extensible.
Where it works
The site-scoped version of this widget works on just about any page on the site. The group-scoped version works on group and group application pages. The user-scoped version works on user profile pages.
Configuration
Enable/Disable Activity Story Types
You can globally configure the types of activity stories you want included in this widget but by default, all are enabled. For more information on configuring Activity Story Tracking see, What is an activity stream?
Once you install the widget on the page, you can scope it to the site, groups (and subgroups), or only the contextual user. You can further personalize the widget by configuring filters (appearing as tabs) that display specific kinds of activity (such as blog posts) for all users, others who are followed, the accessing user themself, etc.
Place and configure the widget (including scope and filters)
- Click Pencil Icon > Manage [Site/Group] Theme > Edit this Page
- Select and place the Activity Story Stream widget on the page
- Click on in the widget menu bar. The configuration dialog appears.
- Options - Select or enter the following configuration options:
- Widget Title - Change the widget title by clicking in the box and entering a new title.
- Number of Items to Display - Specifies the number of items to display on the activity list. (Default - 10)
- Activity Stream Mode - Determines the default view of the Activity Stream and the set of filters to display:
- Site (all site activity) - Displays activity by all users in all groups across the site that the logged-in user has permission to view. For example, he/she might not be able to see a private unlisted group if not a member.
- Site (contextual user's joined and joinless groups only - Displays activity from the joinless and joinful groups of which the signed-on user is a member.
- Group (activity in a group and optionally subgroups)- Displays activity of the group where it's located and, if selected, the activity of its subgroups.
- The "Include subgroup activity" check box appears when you select this activity stream mode.
- User (activity for contextual user) - Displays activity for the contextual user. This mode works only on the user's profile page and displays their own activity.
- Endless stream - Select this check box to automatically load more user stories when you scroll to the bottom of the page without clicking a button.
- Filters - Click on a filter tab (such as Filter 1). To configure a filter, do the following:
- Filter Name - Enter a name for the filter. This name will appear on one of the widget tabs.
- Activity Story Types - Select the activities you want to display. You can configure the tab to show:
- Achievements
- External messages
- Friendship
- Groups
- Join Groups
- Status Messages
- Profile Avatar
- Join Community
- Article
- Blog Posts
- Blog
- Calendars
- Calendar Events
- Forums
- Forum Threads
- Idea Activity
- Ideation Activity
- Galleries
- Files
- Wiki Pages
- Wikis
- Listing Activity
For each activity story type, there are the following activity settings to choose from:

- Exclude activity - This activity type will not appear in the activity stream.Include accessing user's activity - In the group or site view of the activity stream, do you want the user to see only their own activities for this story type? If so, chose this option.
- Include accessing user's activity - In the group or site view of the activity stream, do you want the user to see only their own activities for this story type? If so, chose this option.
- Include accessing user's and followed users' activity - In the group or site view of the activity stream, do you want the user to see ONLY activities from the users he/she follows for this story type? If so, chose this option.
- Include all users' activity - Show activities for this story type from all users on the site (in site view) or in the group (in group view).
- Click Save.
- Options - Select or enter the following configuration options:
- Click Save to exit the configuration dialog.
- Click Publish when complete.
