A gallery houses files that can be viewed, uploaded, or downloaded (or deleted).
How is it different from other applications?
While other applications can use images, a gallery uploads files and allows for download. The space allocated to a gallery can be limited, but defaults to limitless up to the storage parameters of the folder. A media gallery and forum have RSS available. (Wikis have page notifications and blogs have blog notifications.)
