I'm getting this exception error in 10.1.6:
UnknownException: The remote name could not be resolved: 'rpc.technorati.com' ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote name could not be resolved: 'rpc.technorati.com'
It's not that I don't understand the problem as technorati.com is no longer having this ping service.
But would it not be better to have this error "handled" and being reported in the Events as an error here?
Including information on which blog has this problem, so that it is easy to fix it. Right now the only way I know to find out which blogs it is, is to use SQL directly on the blog table.
This setting should be changeable from Administration > Applications > Blogs > Default Settings. Is this not the case?
That is the case, not difficult in itself to fix, but when you have +100 blogs and the message doesn't say which one, then its quite time consuming to do so.
What I'm suggesting is to "handle" this error correctly, not letting it put up an UnknownException and instead giving a "friendly" message - including which blog we are talking about.
This is a global setting so it shouldn't take long to update, but you're right that there is always room for improvement in error messaging. I'll log something to investigate further.
Also we are not talking about the global settings, no technorati there. It's directly in some of the older blogs.
