Stale browser cache issue

Community -

We are working with Telligent support on this one but they have not been able to determine the cause so far and the problem is becoming urgent. Has anyone else experienced a problem in version 10.0 whereby members seemingly randomly are left with stale browser cache, yielding various symptoms like certain widgets not rendering (for example the replies area of forum threads is blank), or the page generally being completely messed up. Below is an example symptom.

The solution to this problem is always to refresh cache using the shortcut CTRL+F5, but we need to find the root cause of this issue as it impacts many members. We have not yet been able to determine the pattern or cause and were hoping someone else may have some ideas. Our one observation is that this seems to correlate with changes being made to our site (hosted by Telligent) such as the site theme, CSS, etc, but we are not certain.

Any ideas? Help!

  • 10.1 is an enhanced version of 10, meaning in addition to numerous bug fixes that accompany any release, it contains enhancements as well.  It did officially replace 10.0 as well, but upgrading to it is no different than any other release or service pack.

  • Yes we've had some heated discussions about that. In our opinion since it fixes so many of the big issues we've reported, it should be a fix, not a service pack. We have concerns about things that might break in the process of the upgrade (like what happened when we upgraded to 10.0), putting us into an endless loop of frustration; Upgrade > spend a lot of time trying to resolve issues to find that most are fixed in a new version > upgrade > and so on. Now, that may sound like the "support treadmill" as one had put it, but we were on version 8.0 for many years with barely any issue and now it's been nonstop trouble for months since we upgraded to 10.0.

Apologies for the rant - I like the Telligent platform, I'm just disappointed in how unstable 10.0 appears to be (at least with our site) and how much time we're having to spend trying to get it fixed.

  • We are having the same caching issue and it is killing us regarding user experience/support as well.

Has anyone found a work around without having to move to 10.1?  That poses some separate challenges in our environment.
