Customized widgets

Question

Is there a way to modify the existing widgets?Is it that i need to create a new widget ,copy the code and make it working as we like?please suggest.

If you are making small adjustments but leaving the widget's primary purpose the same, it is best to edit because you'll be able to review updates when upgrading to newer versions of the Telligent Community platform. 
 If the widget you're creating is going to be significantly different or implement completely new functionality, you can save an existing widget that has some of the same behavior to a new widget and modify it. This will break any relationship to the original widget so upgrades will not alert you to changes in platform-defined/factory-default versions.
