Creating a New Translation
To create a new language,
- Go to Administration > Translation
- Click Add
- Set the language key, name, direction. NOTE: It is recommend to not enable a language that is in development. Once the language is ready for use, it can be enabled.
- Click Save
- You can then export the language for translation using the "Editing Translation" steps below.
Editing Translations
Editing language metadata (name, enablement, default) can be done by going to Administration > Translation, selecting the language, and choosing edit. To translate Community text to a language, it is recommended to export and use an external tool.
To export a language for translation,
- Go to Administration > Translation and select the language and click Export
- On the Export options panel, you can choose which types of translation contexts to export. Depending on why you are exporting, you may want to choose a different "Include" option:
- All translatable text -- to export a full language with all translatable text to share as a language pack or to migrate to another environment.
- Untranslated text only -- to export new translatable text or to continue work on a translation-in-progress.
- Translatable text only when the default is changed -- to export translatable text only if the default language is different from a point in time. When choosing this option, you will need to specify a language export for the default language of the community to use as a reference to detect changes. This option is useful after one or more upgrades to keep custom translations up-to-date as it will only export translatable text that should require review.
- When the export options are determined, click Export. A PO (gettext portable object) file will download.
- There are many PO-supporting tools to manage translations manually or the PO file can be supplied to a translation service.
- When the updated PO file is ready, go to Administration > Translation, click Import, and select the updated PO file to upload.
- Once uploaded, import options will be shown. You can choose which translation contexts to import and whether you want to import to staging or publish immediately. Note: If you import into staging, you'll need to review and publish translations within the various studios: Automation Studio, Email Studio, Embeddable Studio, Theme Studio, Widget Studio. You'll see staged changes in each studio with imported translations.
- When your import options are ready, click Import to begin the import process. Progress will be shown as the import is completed.

Note: If you import into staging, you'll need to review and publish translations within the various studios: Automation Studio, Email Studio, Embeddable Studio, Theme Studio, Widget Studio.
