The general consensus from my, admittedly brief, research was somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 wpm. That's the value encoded into the widget. Should this value need to be adjusted for your content, the widget code on line #11 would need to be changed.

#set($readTime = $wordCount / 200)

For when I get asked, how is the read time for this widget calculated please?
