Groups are typically defined around interests or functions in the community.
Zimbra Community has five group types. (No other group types can be defined on the platform.) The following table describes each group type and whether or how you can join them.
|Group type||How to join|
|Joinless||By default, no one has to join this kind of group because it doesn't have members. The tasks you can perform depend upon your role's site permissions.|
There are two types of public groups: public open and public closed. Their content is public.
There are two types of private groups: private listed and private unlisted.
By default each community has two groups out of the box:
|Site Root||Joinless||None||This group is required for all community sites. It provides the over-arching parent group for all other groups. You can't delete this group.|
|Administrators||Private unlisted||Site Root||
By default, the "admin" user is the owner of this group, so he/she is the only member who can see and access this group and its content. If you're an an administrator, you might want to add other administrators and/or moderators as members of this group as well so that deleted posts can be managed effectively.
